When their father, a corrupt rabbi who abandoned them, dies suddenly, Esther and Miri Horowitz already have a lot to deal with. Things only get worse when a mysterious stranger arrives and informs them that their father was incidentally a conman skilled at Jewish folk magic who borrowed $70,000 from a mystical mob boss and neglected to ever return it. In order to pay off the debt their father left them, the sisters decide to run the con that he was supposed to perform before he died. On the way to completing the job, they find themselves befriending a surly British henchman, learning potent Yiddish incantations, and facing down the legacy of abandonment that they have been running from their entire lives.
