Cracked Pavements: Eric Garner, The Cost of Policing, and America's Informal Economy

My thesis calls attention to the overlooked facts of Eric Garner's life by focusing on Garner's involvement within the informal sector via his relationships to the state, and its influence on his day-to-day life. In addition, my thesis offers important critiques about structural inequality as a driving force of crime, the nuances of black criminality, urban law enforcement practices, overpolicing, and urban crime prevention strategies in the age of mass incarceration.
