From Life and Death, To Gain and Loss: The Alaska Native Claims Settlement

This thesis observes the contemporary politics of indigenous sovereignty and self-determination specific to Alaska Natives. Through conducting interviews and investigative, site-specific research, my study lays out how foundational Alaska Native leaders led the charge in creating a cohesive and politically-driven group of motivated individuals, Native corporations, tribal groups, and villages in negotiating their place within the broader scope of Alaska's politics and economy.
