Notes on the Breach

My thesis takes place during the summer of 1998 and follows a teenager, Edgar, who meets a woman on the NJ Lesbar BBS, an online bulletin board system for lesbians whose users pretend to be in a physical bar. The two begin making videos together, but as the summer continues their relationship becomes more precarious. The form of my thesis comes from Sei Shonagon's eleventh-century work The Pillow Book, in which she writes numbered entries and creates lists. My thesis also includes drawings in ASCII form, which, along with ANSI drawings, were popular before the rise of the World Wide Web.
