Contested Cities: Re-thinking the Global and Re-presenting the Local in Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles
Document
This thesis seeks new narratives for understanding globalization and its effect on world cities that are sensitive to local agency, non-Western contexts, and the effects that globally oriented urban development has on marginalized urban communities. Ultimately, I seek to expand the political horizons for such communities in contesting global urban development paradigms.
