Iran was a major site of ketubot decoaration, with almost all of its Jewish population commissioning for decoarated ketubot. Typical of Iran and other heavily Muslim countries, this contract does not include any images of people, for fear of idolatry. This distinguishes Iranian marriage contracts from similar contracts in European countries. Instead, the object relies on animal imagery.
