Abstract
An investigation of the roles, evolutions, and significance of intelligent mythological species in Europe. This work provides the histories and descriptions of creatures such as fallen angels, giants, nature spirits, faeries, and underworld ("chthonic") beings. Their stances towards gods and to humans are provided, as are various exchanges and relationships between other mythological species. An important revelation is also made about the evolution of the "spirit being" in regards to the nature of intelligent species in mythology and religion.
