Brain Based: Understanding Treatment, Evidence and Recovery in Neuroscience and Psychology
Document
Neuroscience has come to be regarded as a "transformative" discipline, offering superior insight into the world and our selves. This thesis compares two treatments for depression, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (a brain-based treatment), and interpersonal psychotherapy (a talk therapy), to examine the basis of this reputation. In addition to this, this thesis considers the development of the evidence production system used in clinical psychology and the social forces affecting the development and media presentation of biotechnologies.
