Filigree was popular in spice boxes during the middle and later parts of the 19th century, suggesting the chronological origin of this besamim. This object has a silver hallmark identifying its place of origin to the Russian Empire. During this time, however, much of modern-day Poland was in Russia, including Warsaw. It is possible, as a result, that this object was created in Russian Poland.
