Silver hallmarks clearly show this object to be from the Ottoman Empire, seemingly during the reign of Abdulhamid II (1876–1909). Due to the feet at the bottom, it is possible that this object was created as an incense burner, but it is difficult to say for sure. At the least, this object does not appear to have been designed as a besamim, although it may have been used as one. Besamim typically had tower shapes and flags on the top of the spires.
